New Testing Solutions Division at SINOVO: Expert opinion on software and hardware testing
Press Release
Bad Vilbel, 21st November 2023
With the introduction of the new Testing Solutions Division for software and hardware, the company is pursuing the goal of setting the highest quality standards for testing products in strictly regulated markets. Automated tests save costs in the long term.
The IT company SINOVO business solutions GmbH has recently launched the new Testing Solutions division for software and hardware. This strategic initiative aims to optimise the testing processes for products in regulated markets and to ensure the highest quality standards. The division was built up in just a few months with highly qualified employees in order to offer customers optimal quality assurance of software and in connection with hardware.
The aim is to provide customers with efficient and comprehensive test solutions with a focus on test automation that help minimise risk, shorten time to market and optimise the total cost of product development.
A key factor in this process is the decision to bring Dominic Fromke, an experienced leader in the unmanned aerial vehicle industry, to the Testing Solutions Division to provide expertise in hardware and software testing in unmanned aerial vehicles and regulated environments. ‘His knowledge in dealing with complex and regulated markets will now be applied to the development of testing procedures for hardware and software testing at SINOVO to ensure the highest standards in regulated environments’, says Jan Filip, one of SINOVO's two managing directors.
Test automation at the centre of the strategy for the highest software quality
Test automation is at the centre of the strategy to increase software quality and efficiency. ‘While manual tests make sense for one-time development because they are more cost-effective, test automation enables continuous testing as the app is constantly being developed,’ explains Dominic Fromke, Unit Manager - Testing Solutions. A first milestone was the successful implementation of test automation for a medical app that received TÜV approval. This success was then used for further software and hardware products, such as software that handles the automated billing of solar tenant electricity.
The Testing Solutions Division was integrated as an internal unit into all SINOVO divisions to ensure consistently high software quality. As a neutral authority, the experts review software development and support developers in all phases.
Expert opinion: three advantages of test automation using the example of a medical app
Using the example of a self-developed medical diabetes app, Fromke explains why the new approach of the new Testing Solutions division is so promising. He uses this example to show us three advantages of test automation.
- Detect errors between systems
In order to detect these errors automatically and at an early stage, we are currently working on integrating CGM systems into the test automation. To do this, we stimulate the electronics of the CGM transmitter with specially developed circuit boards and control them during the test run. This allows us to simulate CGM values reproducibly and trigger alarms in a targeted manner.
This enables us to test the entire system, i.e. the entire stack, and to detect any Bluetooth problems with the smartphone or sensor problems at a very early stage, for example. This not only saves the developers a lot of hassle, but also cuts costs. - Find errors automatically at an early stage and save time

Fromke illustrates the cost savings achieved through automated full-stack testing as follows: ‘This approach is particularly worthwhile for projects that aim for a longer life cycle. The initial investment in automation pays off significantly in the long run.’ The regulated environment and the associated post-market surveillance ensure that this long lifespan is a given, since the distributors of the medical app must guarantee support for the minimum lifespan of the app and meet the security requirements. This may also imply testing the entire system at very late points in time, e.g. after updates to smartphone operating systems’.
Strategic goal: take testing and validation processes to a whole new level
Today's technology market is characterised by an unprecedented pace of development. Products, especially in the software and hardware sectors, are becoming increasingly complex and diverse. Customers expect not only innovation, but also guaranteed security and reliability. This has led to a situation in which companies need to take their testing and validation processes to a whole new level.
SINOVO's newly created Testing Solutions Division is designed to meet this need. By focusing on an efficient and thorough testing strategy, the company will ensure that products meet the highest quality standards while also complying with complex regulatory requirements. This step is of strategic importance as it not only helps to increase SINOVO's competitiveness but also offers customers real added value.
