Case study: Digital progress in wound care - scanning and processing doctor's prescriptions via app

Press Release
Bad Vilbel, February 4th, 2025

An innovative project from SINOVO enables fast and centralised processing of doctor's prescriptions via app and central back office with automatic text recognition. This saves time and speeds up care.

Digitalisation is also changing wound care and the logistics behind it. Thanks to a new app solution from SINOVO health solutions GmbH, doctors' prescriptions can now be scanned quickly and easily, processed centrally and exported digitally. This speeds up processes, reduces errors and takes the pressure off the employees of our customer, OPED Wundversorgung GmbH.

Innovative app solution for wound care: Scan doctor's prescriptions instead of sending them

Digitalisation is changing the healthcare industry - including in wound care and the logistics required for it. The wound logistics company OPED Wundversorgung GmbH has commissioned SINOVO health solutions GmbH to develop a pioneering app solution. With a new app and a centralised back office, doctors' prescriptions can now be scanned directly, processed digitally and processed automatically without having to be typed in. The result: faster processes, less manual work and improved care.

From scanning doctor's prescriptions to digital processing via app

SINOVO's customer, a specialist in wound care, supports nursing homes, care services and wound care providers in the procurement of medical supplies. The aim of the project was to replace the cumbersome process of sending doctors' prescriptions by photographing the prescription and then emailing it to the company's back office and to automate the process of processing prescriptions.

SINOVO took on all phases of the project - from the design and technical implementation to the installation of the solution. The centrepiece of the project is an app that allows doctors' prescriptions to be scanned easily and without registration. The app is supplemented by a central back office that prepares the incoming data and makes it available for further processing.

‘This project shows how digitalisation creates real added value,’ emphasises Alexander Horneff, Unit Manager at SINOVO health solutions GmbH. ‘Our solution helps the customer to work more efficiently and in a more customer-centred way.’

Technical highlights of the solution

The customised solution impresses with its innovative technologies:

  • App for scanning prescriptions: Prescriptions are scanned directly and transmitted digitally - no registration required.
  • Centralised back office: All incoming prescriptions are displayed in a clear list with processing status.
  • OCR technology: Automatic text recognition reduces manual effort and makes recipe data directly available.
  • Flexible export: Data can be exported as CSV for warehouse management or as PDF for human-readable documentation.
  • Serverless computing: Thanks to the use of cloud services, the system works completely without its own server and offers high scalability

Focus on customer benefits

The solution brings numerous advantages to OPED Wundversorgung:

  • Time saving: Digital processing means that recipe data is immediately available without manual typing.
  • Transparency: The back office provides a clear overview of the status of all recipes.
  • Optimised processes: The centralised approach reduces communication effort and errors.
  • Flexibility: Various export formats allow seamless integration into existing systems.

The customer's project manager Sanja Wiechmann is delighted: ‘With the new app and the central back office, we have significantly optimised our processes. Our employees can concentrate on logistics and customer service, while digitalisation takes over routine tasks.’
